Although I am not all that knowledgeable concerning the Redding reloading product line I still love the idea of getting these product packages where it helps reloaders get started and save cash at the same time. I find also that you can seldom go wrong buying great product lines made at home.
I also learned Redding is advertising a new bullet comparator for setting the bullet depth this is a product that could be a great one if it works with each rifle individually. The reason I say this is because as an older practiced reloader setting up for long range shooting. This bullet depth setting a slow process getting the seating depth is critical to bullet accuracy. To find a tool that does this correctly and easier would be a great help to all reloaders and bench rest shooters alike.
I got side tracked doing this research and wrote a letter to there the company for more information. I have had mixed results doing this so I am not sure if they will take the time to answer me. Some companies will and some will not. If this is a great new product that does all I want I will post the information on this website just to help others find it. This is the Redding claim on the Bullet comparator:
“This instrument provides an extremely quick method for comparing bullets, seating depths, fired cases, sized cases, trim lengths and loaded ammunition for uniformity .
Easily perform any of the following tasks:
Sort bullets for uniformity
Sort cases fired in two or more rifles
Sort sized cases for uniformity
Set up sizing die correctly *
Compare sized cases to fired cases to determine the amount of head space![]()
Check uniformity of shoulder bump
Check bullet seating depth uniformity
Sort loaded ammunition for uniformity
Determine when cases need trimming
Check trim length uniformity”
What I see as missing is getting the bullet seating depth perfect for each individual gun because factories do not have perfect set allowances for each rifle made and moet times there is a variation in seating depth. This setting is also critical to achieving accuracy in lots of rifles.

This is a copy of the Redding warranty I found on their website:
“All Redding Reloading Equipment has been carefully inspected prior to shipment and is fully warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for life. SAECO products that are now manufactured by Redding will carry our same warranty.
Any product or parts which prove to be defective will be replaced or repaired without charge if returned prepaid to the factory.
Note: We reserve the right to decline responsibility where misuse or careless handling is evident or where repairs or modifications have been made or attempted by others.”
I found that Redding has a new set of carbide dies that look to solve reloading problems for some folks I will show it here :
G-Rx Push Thru Base Sizing Die
The new G-Rx Carbide push thru base sizing die is designed to restore fired cases from 40 S&W auto loading pistols that exhibit a bulge near the base without the need for case lube. By passing the case completely through the new G-Rx Carbide Die, the bulge is removed and the case may be returned to service.
This is not sold at Amazon as far as I can tell but it can be found on the Redding home site with the Redding reloading press.
I did get an answer from Robin Sharpless at Redding manufacturing. He explained in full exactly what their products do . This is what he gave me and it says it better than I can. I also would note that when a company even bothers to answer a question in support of their products it tells me they are wanting to stay on top of customer concerns and will as a rule stand behind their products and all the claims. To me this is better than any warranty by far.
This device does not work with the chamber at all but rather has the ability to measure from the case head to the land bearing point on the bullet. Once you have your “perfect” loaded round it can be measured and therefore all additional loads can be seated to have the exact same distance from case head to land bearing point (or point of initial engagement on the rifling) as a way to standardize bullet jump and uniform the pressure curves of the rounds.
Attached here is a brief on the concept for your review
Point of engagement
Premise: As all seaters contact the bullet at a point on the ogive which is not the initial point of engagement (IPE) a method is needed to accurately seat the bullet so the (IPE) is set at a point which is consistent and repeatable in relation to the lands of the rifle barrel.
Redding offers a solution composed of three of their products.
T-7 Turret Press
Instant Indicator
Competition Seating Die.
The concern was raised by a number of Comp seater customers who had concerns that the overall length of a loaded cartridge varied even when the comp seater was used properly. This of course was a function of the variability of the uniformity of the selected bullets ogive. All seaters contact a specific diameter of the bullet based on the shape and diameter of the cavity within the seat plug or seat stem. Non seat off of the metplat. As all things made by man have tolerance as a function of their production. The diameter in question can be either minutely lower or higher on the ogive creating the variance in overall length.
I liken it to a specific slice of the baloney with the exact diameter. This baloney slice though is not the critical one but the one which comprises the Initial point where the bullet contacts the rifling (IPE) is critical. As the above documents the variability in the ogive from bullet to bullet we can easily make the case that the IPE appears at a different point from bullet to bullet as well. Foe accuracy and consistency we need the (IPE) to be exactly the same distance from the lands in each round. Until now with this method there has not been an easy way to accomplish this.
Todd you can better explain why this is important. Mechanical issues of start pressure bullet jump etc.
OK the method.
We create a master loaded round with a specific bullet jump distance from the lands.
Using a T-7 turret press we set up the instant indicator using the bore diameter bushing with the Dial indicator set at zero. This establishes a baseline . The Instant indicator is easy to use accurate and completely repeatable.
Next in the T-7 set up a competition seating die. Seat the bullet intentionally long. Rotate the turret and check the length to the (IPE). The dial indicator will tell you just how many thousandths long you are to the (IPE) in relation to the baseline round.
